Optimize Your Overpass Contractor Profile

Because we want to help businesses and phone reps come together, here are some tips to tighten up your Overpass profile and give yourself the best shot at landing the perfect job.

We’ll go through the entire sign up process with you, and give you tips to improve your profile.

Some general notes

  • Always make sure that your skills and industry experience match up to your work history.
  • Make sure to check your profile for grammar and spelling. A profile free of grammar and spelling errors shows professionalism.

Uploading your profile picture

A headshot is ideal. This can be a picture taken with your phone or elsewhere, as long as it is business professional. And don’t forget to smile!


Writing your introduction

Your Intro is there for hiring managers to get to know you a bit better at first glance. This should be four to five sentences. Your introduction should showcase not only your professional skills, but also your personality and character. You can talk a little about your work ethic and your career goals.

Entering your work history

First, input the most recent position that you’ve worked at - your last or current job.

Then, input two to three relevant positions that are related to phone sales, telephone customer service, telemarketing or similar positions.

Industry experience

Select the industries that apply to the work experience you have. Be honest! The goal is to tell the story of who you are in a way that makes sense. If you want to transition to a new industry, mention that in your bio.

Uploading your resume

Your resume should be in .doc, .docx, or pdf format.

Input your Linkedin URL

Your resume, Linkedin profile and work history should all be consistent with each other. Work positions and experience should match up. While you will have positions on your resume and Linkedin that may not be relevant, make sure that your phone experience matches.


Voice Recording

Record yourself speaking, using the short script we have provided. Find a quiet place and make sure that your microphone is working properly. We recommend using a desktop computer with a headset for the best quality recording. Remember to smile while speaking, as it brings cheerfulness to your voice and makes you sound natural and not robotic. Make sure to listen to yourself talk. Try as many times as you feel you need to get your recording right.

Setting up your schedule

These are the hours that you’re available to work. Our system will adjust to account for your time zone.

Instead of looking at your schedule as a single block of hours (say, from 9 to 5), try to think of a range of times that you are comfortable working. Our marketplace contains a wide range of businesses that have many different scheduling needs. Greater flexibility in scheduling makes your profile more attractive to businesses.

Rate Calculation

Input the hourly rate you want to be paid into the ‘YOUR TAKE HOME RATE’ field. Overpass will automatically compute your ‘PUBLIC RATE’.  The public rate is the rate employers see and will offer you. You should input what you feel comfortable being paid - the public rate that we charge employers includes our fee that we charge the business.

Confirming Your Email

You’re almost there! We will send you a confirmation email. Check your email for our message, and click on the link. If you don’t see our email immediately, make sure to check your Spam folder.

Submitting Your Completed Profile

Go back to the Overpass dashboard, click on ‘Edit Profile’, and when you are brought into your profile screen click on the blue ‘Submit’ button. You’re done!

It usually takes up to 48 hours for a Talent Advocate to reach out to you. They’ll also help you with any last minute tweaks and adjustments your profile needs.

Getting Hired

After approval, one of our account executives will work to match you up with clients. Once a client shows interest, we will reach out to set up an interview. Make sure that you respond to any calls or emails from us as soon as possible. Positions are competitive and contacting us is the best way to ensure that you get hired quickly.
